The year that continues to challenge us threw another wrench in our faulty system. May she rest in peace, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away on September 18th, 2020. Spending a lifetime flourishing in the face of adversity, the only Supreme Court Justice beloved by pop culture, the Notorious RGB was unabashedly fierce. A champion of justice, the supremest of the Supremes, this Sonoma County Dispensary honors what Ginsburg has done to pave the way for all women and the good of society. A pioneering figure, may her boldness remind us to continue our fight for equality and stand up for what we believe in. An ode to her memory and an effort to preserve her legacy, read below for RGB’s words of wisdom:
- “My mother told me to be a lady. And for her, that meant be your own person, be independent.”
- “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”
- “We are at last beginning to relegate to the history books the idea of the token woman.”
- “We should not be held back from pursuing our full talents, from contributing what we could contribute to the society, because we fit into a certain mold ― because we belong to a group that historically has been the object of discrimination.”
- “So often in life, things that you regard as an impediment turn out to be great, good fortune.”
- “Don’t be distracted by emotions like anger, envy, resentment. These just zap energy and waste time.”
- “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”
- “…if you want to be a true professional, you will do something outside yourself… something that makes life a little better for people less fortunate than you.”
- “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.”
On how she would like to be remembered:
“Someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability. And to help repair tears in her society, to make things a little better through the use of whatever ability she has. To do something…outside myself. ‘Cause I’ve gotten much more satisfaction for the things that I’ve done for which I was not paid.”
All of us at Flora Terra honor the many ways this powerhouse of a woman made history. Battling sexism, juggling motherhood and fighting tirelessly for gender equality, she was a role model who we’ll continue to look up to. A force of nature, RGB was, and is, an absolute boss.
