Cannabis & Wine – Wine Country Cannabis

While Sonoma has long been known for the harvesting and crafting of fine wines, Wine Country has also started attracting attention for its other “buzz-worthy” products. No longer just a land of award-winning libations, tourists are flocking to Sonoma County to sample our high-quality cannabis. One of the prime locations to pick up the goods? You may already know…Flora Terra is one of the best dispensaries in Sonoma!

While regulations currently don’t allow for cannabis and wine to be consumed together at public events, the want for weed paired with wine is spreading faster than a cloud of smoke or a Pinot Noir stain on a wine shirt. Both with a foundation in agriculture, wine and cannabis are more alike than many may think! The two are complex, noted for their flavor and aromatics, and impacted by the terroir in which they are grown. Complementary in a myriad of ways, each industry is composed of  passionate growers, dedicated artisans and mindful consumers.

Cannabis plants flourish in the same conditions that make Sonoma County a favorable winegrowing region. The light rainfall, sun-filled summers, mild seasonal variations and abundance of unique microclimates mean Wine Country is also ideal for cultivating cannabis. If the two can co-exist in the field, can’t they both be enjoyed at the table?

In addition to respecting Sonoma County for our wine, why not indulge in our top-shelf cannabis as well! For a truly memorable evening (or perhaps one that’s delightfully hazy) pair the two!

Same Same, but Different: Strains & Varietals

Both cannabis and wine contain terpenes – different aromatic profiles and distinct flavors that can harmonize and enhance each other.

Heady Indicas & Cabernet Sauvignon

A full-bodied, slightly dry and bold red wine, Cabernets tend to be fruity or resinous with notes of cherry or mint and hints of cedar characteristics. Put your pinkies up and fill your glass with a heavy, spicy, and woody strain, like Elyon’s Cookie Pie

Citrus Sativas & Chardonnay

A white wine known for its crisp and potentially tart profile, Chardonnays can be compared to the sharp zesty flavors of a Sativa-dominant strain such as Flora Terra’s own Lemon Pucker, Pacific Stone’s 805 Sour, or Cypress Premium Black Jack.

Translating nuances of flavor and trying to pick up the faintest of smells, is being an expert budtender or cannaseur not similar to the art of a sommelier? Elevate the reputation of cannabis and think beyond wineries when planning the perfect Sonoma day.

Whether you choose to pair them or prefer to enjoy each on their own, appreciate the experience! Cannabis and wine are beautiful products with a backstory, who both call Wine Country home. With a toast and a puff, taste Sonoma!

Happy experiencing!
